Nordic design meets Japanese illustration.

Design collective Lucie Kaas has a penchant for understated design that draws its influence from multiple sources, and has partnered with character design specialists Sketch Inc to create this collection of Kokeshi dolls.

Sketch.inc was founded in 2011 by Artist Becky Kemp and is a whimsical world of character design and pattern exploration.

Becky Kemp is an English artist based in South London. From a young age, Becky has been illustrating her daily impulses in a sketchbook. Born into a creative family, Becky always knew that she wanted to create and design.

She studied Fine Art Paining for three years and also worked as an art teacher before deciding to concentrate full-time on her own work.

In 2011, she opened Sketch.inc – a creative studio from where she designed and sold all of her creations. Since then, her designs has gained huge popularity worldwide and are now represented in more than 30 different countries.

Her work is inspired by a love for Nordic design and Japanese illustration. Becky has an uncanny talent for communicating with precision while still maintaining a humour and creative impression - a key combination that has lead to her success and cult following.

“I was encouraged to create from an early age and I still believe in the idea that if you can’t find what you are looking for simply learn how to make it yourself.”

Based on a traditional style of Japanese doll, the collection depicts a number of pop culture icons and symbols.

Following in the footsteps of iconic retailers such as Opening Ceremony in New York, The Museum of Modern Art Store in New York and Japan, Colette in Paris and Karl Lagerfeld stores across Europe we're extremely excited to announce CIRCA75 has proudly partnered with Lucie Kaas and is stocking the Sketch Inc by Lucie Kaas Hand Painted Icons range of Kokeshi Dolls.
Kokeshi dolls are traditional Japanese figures with a bigger head and a simple body. Though customarily given as a symbol of friendship, Becky Kemp's modernisation of the dolls transforms them into small designer objects. They are perfect as a gift or as an original decorative twist to the contemporary home.
