Sydney WorldPride 2023

Sydney WorldPride 2023

Presenting a truly global LGBTQIA+ pride festival

Gather, Dream, Amplify

In 2023, Sydney Mardi Gras and Sydney WorldPride unite to present a truly global LGBTQIA+ pride festival – the very first in the Southern Hemisphere.

The theme for the festival, GATHER, DREAM, AMPLIFY, was developed in partnership with our extraordinary First Nations and LGBTQIA+ communities. It acknowledges the traditional custodians of Australia and represents our commitment to equality and inclusion.

Sydney WorldPride will be calling. A calling to come together and participate in a global movement.

Introducing the world to our LGBTQI+ communities

In 2023, Sydney Mardi Gras and Sydney WorldPride will introduce the world to our glittering LGBTQIA+ communities, giving our diverse First Nations and Asia Pacific people the opportunity to share their pride on a global stage.

A spotlight in the Asia-Pacific region

We’ve taken the opportunity to bring WorldPride to the southern hemisphere for the first time – not only representing Australian states and territories, but also bringing focus to our neighbouring countries in the Asia-Pacific region who do not all have the same level of equality and human rights that we do.

Two weeks filled with world-class events

The seventeen-day combined extravaganza of sun-kissed events will showcase much-loved Sydney Mardi Gras favourites like the spectacular Parade, Fair Day, Mardi Gras Party and many more. Sydney WorldPride will feature world-class Opening and Closing Ceremonies, a Human Rights Conference and First Nations Gathering and an unforgettable Pride March across the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge. Events calendar available here.

The celebration of our achievements

2023 is an important year for Australian LGBTQI+ communities, not only will it feature the once in a lifetime Sydney World Pride and Mardi Gras Festival events, but it also marks Australia’s 50th anniversary of the first Gay Pride Week, the 45th anniversary of the first Mardi Gras Parade, and 5th year anniversary of Australian marriage equality.

United we stand, together we grow

Sydney WorldPride and the 2023 Mardi Gras Festival will be a time for the LGBTQIA+ communities across the globe to come together to listen deeply, learn, take action, protest and party. It will be a moment in time where the whole world be united in pride for the very first time – but it’s just a starting point.

The enduring legacy on First Nations land

The legacy that Sydney WorldPride will leave behind will be long reaching. Not only will our pride as Asia Pacific LGBTQIA+ communities be shared with the world, but the knowledge, experience, relationships, systems and initiatives that are developed for Sydney WorldPride continue as Mardi Gras marches fearlessly into the future.
